John C. Hamer

John Hamer John C. Hamer is Executive Director of the John Whitmer Historical Association. He is an independent researcher, historian and mapmaker. Hamer has produced maps for a number of university presses and museums, including the University of Michigan Press, Columbia University Press, the Smithsonian Institution Press, the Strategic Air and Space Museum, and the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center.

In the field of Latter Day Saint studies, Hamer has also produced maps for the LDS church’s Joseph Smith Papers Project and the Community of Christ’s forthcoming history, From Restoration to Community: The Journey of a People. Hamer is the author of Northeast of Eden: A Historical Atlas of Missouri’s Mormon County, and is currently at work on The Atlas of Mormon History (forthcoming).

He lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan with his partner of ten years, Michael Karpowicz.
