In April 2008, the John Whitmer Historical Association teamed with the Community of Christ Seminary and the Sunstone Education Foundation to hold the first ever Restoration Studies Symposium/Sunstone Midwest in Independence, Missouri.
 
Volume X of Restoration Studies includes presentations from this stimulating symposium, including the address by Wallace B. Smith, "Experiences in Growing a Faith: Reflections on a Twenty-year Journey, 1976–1996."
