Our Mission

Kirtland Temple Our mission is to promote new research into the history of the Latter Day Saint movement, with a particular emphasis on exploring its rich diversity.

Although the Mormon prophet Joseph Smith Jr. and five other elders organized a single church on April 6, 1830, today hundreds of churches trace their origin to that event.

By focusing on the broader movement, John Whitmer Books hopes to bring the fascinating narratives of lesser known individuals and groups forward, to paint a more complete picture of Mormonism.
